Fust began life as the solo project of South Carolina songwriter Aaron Dowdy, who combined raw, occasionally painful life experiences in the southern United States with a literary sensibility. With the addition of other musicians, Fust became a band and collaborated with some critical darlings of the 2020s indie scene, earning critical plaudits with albums like 2023’s Genevieve and 2025’s Big Ugly. Dowdy's storytelling bent comes from a life lived in Appalachia; born in West Virginia in 1992 and raised in Bristol, Virginia, he began writing and self-recording his own music at the age of 11.
