In April 1966, soul icon Otis Redding performed seven times in one weekend on the Sunset Strip at the Whisky a Go Go. The intimate atmosphere made for especially intense shows, which could be as short as 40 minutes but were nonetheless absolutely exhausting, as Redding tore through his own songs along with classics like "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," and "A Hard Day's Night."
A new six-CD box set from Stax, timed to celebrate what would have been Redding's 75th birthday this year, compiles all seven performances in one place for the first time ever, and we're offering two lucky AllMusic readers the chance to receive one for free.
